If you have problems with setting your screen resolution,try this method,

right click the desktop, goto Properties - Settings - Advanced, click the ADAPTER tab and click on LIST ALL MODES...

That brings up all the resolutions your Graphic card supports.
you can then select which resolution you require. then apply.
