Hey.
I have an idea. Its an idea and I was wondering what other people thought of it. Have a Cyberia PC Teamspeak server? Now for those who do not know what Teamspeak (TS), it is a voice chat program. It is just like Ventrillo. I use it all the time for the games that I play and it is very helpful and useful. I will post a screen shot of what it looks like. What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad idea?
Welcome for suggestions. What do you think?
Ryan

Sounds like a good idea,
what games would be used though?

Hey, Great idea!
When i'm not talking on my server i'm talking to Shifty on his server so i use it pretty much all the time. You don't just use it to play games Harriw, in fact in never use it to play games. But that's supposed to be what it's ment for

I just like talking to random people..
So who's gonna host the server?

Im glad that you guys like the idea. For the games, they could be ANY! We could rent one from OSG (Online Stomping Ground) although for a fee.

If anyone is interested, we discuss this more. I know Teamspeak inside and out very well. I could Admin it along with Ali, with his approval, I could set it up and help run with. I do not mind doing it at all. Anyone else like to jump into this idea and voice your opinion. Thanks Sir's and Ma'ams.

Hey,
I was checking out the pricing on the servers and there is one minor problem. We need to see who would join the server and actually use it. This way who could figure out how many users per server we would have to go. UNLESS someone would be able to host a server with a good bandwidth so there would be no lag and what not. I have a server currently up which I dont mind using for testing out if people are interested in it. If you are interested in seeing what the program is like first hand, please PM me titled "Teamspeak" or "TS".
If no one can host a server, free, then why not set up a pay pal acct and the people who use it can donate to keep the server up. Someone will be in charge of paying it but people donate to help. It will all depend on the server that is selected, if we purchase one.
Your guys thoughts? What about you Ali? Do you like the idea?

Hey Ryan,
Nice idea. The last voice chatting program I remember using was FreeTel, many many years ago

Bandwidth is not a problem for us. The only thing is that the server runs on a 2.4GHz Celeron, which might die with the added load. I've got it down to running just MySQL, Apache and a dozen security programs and still the load tends to spike a few times a day.
If you've got a test server, then we can see how it works and if we get a good number of users logging in, the idea of having a PayPal account to pay for a dedicated server seems good. If not, I've got an old PII with CIHOST (shivers) that I could set up TS on.
btw, can you also type in TS? If so, then we don't need to worry about the idea of having an IRC channel, which is something I've been thinking about.

You can type in it, but it's not very functional. You have to right click and go through a dialog to send a message. Not really fast enough.
Selkie and I have a TS server for our gaming clan. It's complete with a little logo too!

The server is hosted on a dynamic IP though.
BTW, the address for TS is:

Hey,
The only draw back with my test server is that I run it off of my home computer, so it might be a little laggy and not always clear quality, but I am still up for the shot of having people log on and testing it out. With mass users and low bandwidth comes low quality. If your interested PM me titled TS or Teamspeak and I will give you my information.

I just checked out TS for the first time on Ryan's server and liked it very much. Before we set it up on a permanent server (hopefully by tomorrow), if anyone wants to give it a try, PM Ryan (everythingsbs) and he'll send you the login details.
If there's lots of interest, we'll set up a forum for it too.

Just a side note... I recommend using Speex 7.2kbps codec. That way Selkie can join on his 56k.

PMed you.
Also, if you want to put a logo on your server, append this line to your "server.ini"

Take it easy and don't get too excited. If you have a question about a moderated post, PM me and I'll look into it.

No need for the test server anymore. Ali has set up, hopfully, a perment one. I am setting it up now. However Ali has asked for the IP not to be handed out just yet. It will be giving out with either Ali posting it or myself post it.
Do you guys have any idea's for a channel topic??

Here is what I came up with so far for the server now. I can add/remove channels if needed or desired. What do you guys think?

Hey
I think there are plenty of channels in that which you don't really need, especially the ones for SA's (Server Admins) and CA's (Channel Admins), it's pointless. Also the two information channels, why not just include ithe info with the welcome message?

Nice work!
I think Selkie has the idea with less channels though; it's a little confusing at the moment.
Here's RelfeX's TS server:

Maybe limit the channels to a general chat channel, an administrators lounge, and a gaming channel with the approriate sub-channels.
If you get stuck for channel names and descriptions, we could have a competition or something.
Good job, can't wait to join it.

That's the way to have it. Clean, simple and neat.
The whole point of TS is to talk, not to bugger around moving to different channels.

Hey,
Thanks for the input. Ive modified TS now. I was originally going to have a Games Channel and use sub-chans for the games but then decided just to leave the channel to their own game. Ill probably go with my first idea, sub chans the games. I removed the Info channels and added it into the entrance channel. Also i added an admins channels.
I cant do the welcome message Selkie because I dont have access to the Admin page log in. Ali does. Everything I do, I do within the server. Ali has to do the welcome message and all of that. Anyways.
What do you guys think now?

The delay has been my fault and not Ryan's. The PII server that I planned to use for TS has an older OS and Kernel and hasn't been setup for security at all. Since I don't have the time these few weeks (University starting, forms to fill out for next year, project, etc...), I won't be able to run it publicly on that server for at least a few weeks.
Sorry about this. If anyone has a static IP on a server they'd like to kindly offer then that would be great.

I'm currently in the process of talking my brother into moving his site (slam3.com) to a dedicated server. If that happens, then we'll have a second server with lots of resources that we can set up TS on.
I should now for sure if we'll get a new server within a week, so I'll let you know what happens.
