Get a copy of Photoshop or PSP and go through as many tutorials as possible from sites like http://www.good-tutorials.com/

I think that's the best way to sharpen your skills.

Make sure you pirate a copy pirate.gif . My friend's uncle decided to buy a ton of software and he had to take out a loan for it. Turns out that he got fired next week, couldn't pay back the loan, and they reposessed some of his stuff ( including his computer!)

I aggree to this 100% thumbsup.gif

Thats exactly how i started, but the only problem i had when doing tutorials at an early stage was finding certain things that tutorials asked to do.

Hi,

Take it slow and don't get bummed if you can get it like you want. It takes time - but before you know it - you will develop a style that works. From there, you can build.

I would highly recommend you use Photoshop. Almost all version that are fairly new will be the best tool. I think anything from 6 up will be great. I personally have CS and 7 - but tend to use 7 more. Who knows why.

Then, just practice. Maybe make a background. And then just start playing. Adding text and maybe mix some images...just do something. from there..you will stat to get the hang of where things go and how things work. But - don't be afraid to experiment. Maybe start with a 1024 X 768 image at 72 dpi. From there...just go to town and use some of the filters. You will slowly develop some ideas on what looks good and what doesn't. But keep with it.

I am sure you will have fun. And if you can get photoshop - learn it. It is one of the very best tools out there. I really can't see any program replacing it yet.

Hope that helped. Enjoy. original.gif

Hey freelight, what exactly is the difference between the two? I have a digital SLR and a few people say it might be better to use CS instead of 7 for touching photos. Don't really know how accurate that is though.

Hi,

Well, as far as CS for Photos - I hear it is better. I normally don't do a whole lot of modification with my photography unless it is a total re-design. For me - 7 seem to be faster. I have one program I use called Photo Brush for my simple stuff - and I use Picassa to bring in my photos from the camera and ACD SEE 5 for the viewing and organising.

But as far as 7 vs CS...if you have CS and the system is powerful enough - it is better.

Check out my posts - I am trying to get some new Skins going - I think it will really add to the program - which is so nice. Thanks!!

If your just staring off then i say go PSP8 (Paint Shop Pro 8). I'd use it anyday over Photoshop or CS. It's simple to use, you can't go wrong really and it's got everything you need wink.gif And definately don't go buying this stuff, it costs a fortune pirate.gif

Yeah but PSP doesnt have the dynamics of Photoshop. My compy just came with Photoshop 7 for free, so I was lucky. Plus if you guys want I can just e-mail you the actual Photoshop. XD
