Of all the products released by Symantec, I have to say, their Removal Tool is by far their best. They've really outdone themselves with that gem of a product. Reaction to it has been overwhelmingly positive from reviewers all across the Internet. Here's a description of what it does from the Symantec website:
"The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer."
I've had Norton 360 installed on my Windows machine for a while now. Not only is it useless against a boatload of spyware applications, but it is also a memory hog, it's slow to load, it's slow during scans, it takes it several weeks to react after you click on "Skip Scan" or "Stop Scan", it causes random lockups during startup, and the list just goes on and on...The only thing it's good at is cleaning up temporary internet files, which I have to admit is great, especially since doing it from within IE or Firefox is such a hassle. I mean you have to load the browser, and then you have to go to Tools, click on Internet Options/Clear Private Data, then click on the button...I mean, it's just not worth the trouble.
Take a look at the attached screenshot. Good old SpyBot S&D found over 100 suspicious files and entries in under 10 minutes, while Norton has found none and it's been running for over an hour so far.
