History of Computers: MS-DOS
Version 1.0 was introduced in 1981. MS-DOS is a text-based 16-Bit
single-user, single-tasking operating system. Due to the fact that IBM
chose MS-DOS as the operating system for its PC's it soon became the
most important operating system for Personal Computers. The success of
Microsoft is mainly based on the success of MS-DOS. Later
versions of MS-DOS brought some changes in memory handling and peripheral
support, but because of its architecture, DOS is unable to
make use of the capabilities of modern computers. Though
technically obsolete, it is preferred by many programmers (mainly
developers of games), because the application has full control over all
resources in the PC. |
